Shawn Michaels to referee NXT title match in San Antonio

The night before NXT’s next TakeOver special, Shawn Michaels will return to the ring as a special guest referee in San Antonio, Texas.

WWE announced today that Michaels will be refereeing an NXT Championship match between Drew McIntyre and Adam Cole, which will take place as NXT comes to the Aztec Theatre for a house show on November 17th. McIntyre is set to defend his title in Houston against Andrade “Cien” Almas the next day.

The likely reason for Michaels being added to the show is because Ring of Honor has a show in San Antonio head-to-head that night.

Originally McIntyre vs. Cole was to headline the TakeOver show in Houston until the decision was made to revive the War Games concept. Cole will be teaming with Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly against SAnitY (Eric Young. Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain) and The Authors of Pain & Roderick Strong in a three-team War Games match at TakeOver.

TakeOver: War Games will be the first of four WWE events to take place at the Toyota Center in Houston during Survivor Series weekend. The venue will host Survivor Series, Raw, and SmackDown over the following three nights.
