Sheamus advances in WWE Speed contender’s tournament

Sheamus is one step closer to a shot at the WWE Speed Championship.

This week on WWE Speed, a number one contender’s tournament kicked off to determine the next challenger for Andrade’s title. Sheamus advanced to the quarterfinals with a victory over Giovanni Vinci. As Vinci was coming off the top rope, Sheamus connected with a knee strike. He then took off his knee pad and delivered another strike for the win with 34 seconds left on the three-minute clock.

A matchup against Bron Breakker could be next for Sheamus. Breakker is facing Cruz Del Toro on Speed next Wednesday (October 23) to decide Sheamus’ quarterfinal opponent.

Breakker vs. Del Toro, Dragon Lee vs. Tavion Heights, and Akira Tozawa vs. Riley Osborne are the remaining first-round matches in the number one contender’s tournament.

Andrade has been WWE Speed Champion since June. In his three title defenses, he’s defeated Xavier Woods, Baron Corbin, and Pete Dunne.

Speed crowned its first-ever Women’s Champion last week with Candice LeRae defeating IYO SKY in the finals of a tournament.
