Sheamus pulled from WWE Last Time is Now tournament

An injury has forced Sheamus to withdraw from WWE’s The Last Time is Now tournament.

WWE announced this afternoon that, despite winning his first-round match, Sheamus will not be able to continue in the tournament to decide John Cena’s final opponent. A shoulder injury is the reason for Sheamus having to withdraw. WWE has not confirmed a replacement yet, but we could find that out soon. WWE says more information will be revealed on SmackDown tonight.

Sheamus defeated Shinsuke Nakamura in the opening round on the November 10 episode of Raw. His quarterfinal matchup was supposed to happen next Friday on SmackDown.

The first round of the tournament wraps up with Carmelo Hayes vs. Bronson Reed and Penta vs. Finn Balor taking place on SmackDown tonight. Rusev, Jey Uso, LA Knight, Gunther, and Solo Sikoa have already booked their quarterfinal spots.

Cena will face the tournament winner at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C. on December 13 in the last match of his legendary career.

This past Monday on Raw at Madison Square Garden, Cena and Sheamus were partners in a six-man tag match. They teamed up with Rey Mysterio to defeat The Judgment Day (Dominik Mysterio, Balor & JD McDonagh).

WWE has not announced how long Sheamus is expected to be sidelined with his injury.
