The Rock details recent cancer scare in new interview
The Rock detailed a recent health scare in a new interview with Esquire.
Speaking with Ryan D’Agostino for an article published on Thursday, Rock said he recently saw a doctor after feeling a lump on his testicle while showering. The doctor said it was likely epididymitis, an inflammation of a tube at the back of the testicle but could also be cancer. He underwent an ultrasound the following morning.
Rock noted that he did not even tell his wife, Lauren Hashian, about it.
Rock said:
“I didn’t even tell Lauren. I didn’t want to worry her before I knew if it was anything to even worry about.”
“By the way: I’m fine. But I didn’t know that then, and the thing was really painful.”
“So I had to live with that for those twenty-four hours, not knowing—and I had to be on all day, joking around, making speeches,” he continued.
Elsewhere in the interview, Rock spoke about not being nominated for an Oscar for his performance as Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine. D’Agostino noted that Rock paused before answering.
Rock said:
“It would have been incredible to get nominated for an Oscar. … I realized very quickly that it’s a rare thing to reach this pinnacle where you’re even having these conversations. And it’s exciting! It would have been amazing. I wish it happened. But it didn’t. But in no uncertain terms did I ever think, Oh, that doesn’t matter. I always thought it mattered. And it has lit a fire in my spine, which is: Let’s get back to work.”
