Update on Andrade’s WWE departure
Andrade’s WWE departure was due to disciplinary issues.
On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Garrett Gonzales addressed what led to the 35-year-old’s second stint with WWE coming to an end less than two years after he returned.
Meltzer said:
“I’ve seen all the speculation everywhere and I don’t know the whole story but I do know it was a discipline thing. It was not his doing at all.“
He continued:
“A couple of weeks ago there was a disciplinary thing and all I know is it was at a TV shoot and he was told to go home and he’s not been used since. I was told it was not drug related, it was not alcohol related, it was not marriage related.”
“Nobody would tell me what it was, but it was enough to be sent home.”
Meltzer continued to say that when Andrade was sent home, people familiar with the situation assumed he was done with the company. He also said that WWE was once interested in having Andrade wrestle in AAA, but it’s unclear why that didn’t happen.
“I know that they wanted him in the AAA project,” Meltzer continued. “He didn’t do it, so there’s that.”
“But I don’t know that that has anything to do with it or not,” he added.
Andrade’s first stint with WWE lasted from 2015 until he was granted his release in March 2021. He debuted for AEW that June. His AEW contract expired after Worlds Ends on December 30, 2023 and he returned to WWE as a surprise entrant in the 2024 Royal Rumble.
