Will Ospreay has received ‘lovely’ support from people in WWE amid injury

Amid a difficult situation for him health-wise, AEW star Will Ospreay has received some support from an unexpected source.

Ospreay announced earlier this week that he’ll need to undergo surgery to deal with the two herniated discs in his neck that have been plaguing him. Still, Ospreay will be competing in a Lights Out steel cage match at today’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view in his home country of England.

Speaking with The Metro ahead of the PPV, Ospreay revealed that he’s gotten “super lovely” messages from people in WWE about his injury situation.

“I’ve got people in [WWE] that I’ve never met before in my entire life, that have reached out because of this neck injury, and they have gone, ‘Hey, if you need a doctor, or if there’s any questions that need to be answered.’ Every single one of them are super lovely,” he said. “And I wish them all the best. I really do.”

Ospreay did not name any of the people who have reached out to him. He has been very vocally supportive of AEW amid its rivalry with WWE, saying earlier this year that he believes his AEW co-workers are much stronger in-ring, but Ospreay has also expressed respect and admiration for those in WWE.

There is no surgery date set for Ospreay yet, nor is there a timeframe for how long he’ll be out of action. This will be the first surgery he’s ever undergone.

“I don’t feel hurt. There are just things that are going on in my body that I know aren’t normal and I need to get looked at,” Ospreay told The Metro.

“But in terms of where my anxiety comes from is like, after the bell rings and it’s all done and I’m finished, I don’t know what life looks like. I’ve never had anybody cut into me before.”

Ospreay is teaming with Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, Darby Allin & Hiroshi Tanahashi in today’s Lights Out cage match. They’re taking on Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, The Young Bucks & Gabe Kidd.
