WWE star Gunther feels like he’s found ‘sweet spot’ with weight loss

WWE star Gunther feels like he’s found the “sweet spot” with his physique.

Appearing on The Rich Eisen Show, Gunther detailed losing approximately 60 pounds around the time he was called up to the WWE main roster. Gunther said he’s since gained a little bit of that back and now feels like he’s found where he’s supposed to be with his weight.

“I dropped, I forgot, 50 pounds, maybe? 60 pounds at one stage,” Gunther said. “I always felt like, I’m a heavyweight wrestler. I never minded my look. Athletically, I always felt good. I always had good stamina and stuff like that. But at some point before I came to the main roster, I was like, it’s time to adapt a little bit. Bring the best version of myself to national television. I gained a little bit again since then, and I think I found my sweet spot now.”

Gunther was a big fan of Japanese heavyweight wrestlers growing up and always loved that style of competition. After weight loss, he had to make some changes to his in-ring style.

“Yeah, a little bit,” Gunther said about changing up his repertoire. “The upsides were I felt way lighter and moved even better and stuff. But then, yes, certain things that you do that you did with much more weight on, I did it when I was lighter, I was like, ‘Ohh, something’s missing here. Maybe I can’t do that anymore.’ But, yeah, that’s — live and learn.”

Gunther has one of the biggest moments of his career coming up this weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event, where he will be the opponent for John Cena’s final match. He’s looking to retire Goldberg and Cena in the same calendar year.
