Intercontinental title to be defended on WWE Raw next week

An Intercontinental Championship rematch will take place when WWE Raw comes to Paris next week.

It’s been announced that the September 1 episode of Raw will feature Dominik Mysterio defending his Intercontinental title against AJ Styles. The show is being held at Paris La Defense Arena one day after the venue hosts WWE Clash in Paris.

At SummerSlam, Dominik retained the IC title over Styles by using some trickery. He loosened his boot so that his foot would easily slip out when Styles applied a Calf Crusher. Dominik then won after striking Styles with his boot and hitting a frog splash.

Their feud has continued in the following weeks, with Styles defeating Judgment Day member Finn Balor on Raw this afternoon. Judgment Day went to Raw General Manager Adam Pearce later in the show wanting something done about Styles — and he responded by booking next week’s title match.

Dominik has now been Intercontinental Champion for more than four months after winning the belt this April at WrestleMania 41.

Raw has a special start time of 2 p.m. Eastern next week streaming live on Netflix. It’s the final stop on WWE’s European tour before the promotion returns to the United States.
