WWE legend Steve Austin wins category in off-road race
WWE legend “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was able to pick up a racing victory over the weekend despite facing some difficulties along the way.
Off-road racing has become a passion for Austin, and he’s started his own team named Broken Skull Racing. Austin drove in the Night Vision 250 in Fallon, Nevada over the weekend and was able to win his stock mod category, beating out the two other registered drivers in the category. Overall, Austin finished in 13th place out of 36 listed drivers. His time was 5:46:25.
Austin was surprised to win his category given that he faced some issues during the race, including a “huge rock” that ended up in the middle of the course. He was able to maneuver enough to avoid the type of damage that would have completely derailed him, but Austin had to run most of the race conservatively:
- We qualified 8th and were running really good for almost a lap when some issues came up. We ran most of the race at a conservative pace to cross the finish line and get podium points. I was surprised we won our class. We looked at the car last night and are working on the fix for the next race in 5 weeks.
- Midway thru the race a huge rock was kicked out in the middle of the course. We had just dodged a previous rock and this was a race ending situation as this was the kind of rock that would rip a complete front corner off the car. I squared up and went right over the top of it. The impact rattled the skeletons of both myself and my co driver. The front bumper and skid plate built by @teixeiratech took most of the damage and protected the car for the most part. The H2 shot up in the air, came back down, and we kept going. That could have easily taken us out of the race. But we got by, and promptly marked it as a DANGER for the next few laps. I did not want to hit that sucker again…

Austin lives in Nevada and was a guest at the WWE World convention this April, but he did not end up appearing at WrestleMania 42. The previous year, Austin did have a small on-camera role when he announced the night-two attendance for WrestleMania 41.
There was speculation that Austin could appear on the 3:16 Day edition of Raw earlier this year, but preparation for an off-road race meant that he was unable to. Austin also won his category at the Prospector 250 that month, with these events being put on by Vorra Off-Road Racing. Austin drives a Kawasaki-branded car with “316” as his number.
Austin, now 61 years old, has not competed in a WWE match since coming out of retirement to face Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38 in 2022. The Texas Rattlesnake doubts he’ll ever return to the ring again despite feeling like he would physically be capable of having another match.
