WWE RAW Google Search interest and analysis (last 90 days comparative)
This level of interest for WWE RAW this week appears to be solid, if not great, compared to the last 90 days of data from Google Trends. As of writing, the trend levels for the last 90 days have Sunday 19th at a 15 out of 100, implying that while there’s some interest in this week’s RAW, it’s not at the levels of some weeks based on search volume.
What we usually see is interest in RAW going up at the weekend following a PLE show. The graph below shows that June 29, so the Monday after Night of Champions, had the highest level of interest over the last 90 days. This makes sense as Sami Zayn won the WWE Championship and Oba Femi had won the King of the Ring. A lot of fans may have skipped NOC as an event entirely and might want to watch the normal weekly show to see the fallout (if Zayn appears or if Femi chooses his SummerSlam opponent etc).
The second largest peak is the night after WrestleMania, which is likely lower than searches for the Raw after NOC because Search was still dominated at that point by ‘WrestleMania’ and ‘RAW After Mania’ as terms.
Google Trends scores measure relative search (interest rather than the total number of searches) and the highest point in the selected location and period is assigned a score of 100. It’s not an exact science of knowing how much hype is around a certain event/weekly show, but it’s a good indicator.
WWE RAW Tonight compared to the last 90 days
Here are the levels of interest based on Google Search trends over the last 90 days from highest to lowest (correct as of writing):
- April 20: 75 before rising to around 96.
- July 6: 67 before rising to around 92.
- June 15: 63 before reaching approximately 72.
- July 13: 60 before reaching approximately 69.
- May 25: 58 before reaching approximately 62.
April 20th, as already mentioned, was the RAW after Mania. Roman Reigns appeared after defeating CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship, Cody Rhodes confronted Punk, and Oba Femi appeared following his victory over Brock Lesnar.
The July 6 episode also had a strong level of interest before the show. WWE had advertised Sami Zayn defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes. Gunther then attacked Rhodes during Raw, allowing CM Punk to replace him and defeat Zayn for the title.
By comparison, the June 22 and June 29 episodes produced much sharper increases from a lower starting point. Interest was close to its normal baseline before both shows before rising to approximately 89 on June 22 and 100 on June 29. This suggests that those increases were driven more heavily by what happened on the show rather than the build.
