Rey Mysterio undergoing surgery for torn abductor

Rey Mysterio is having surgery to repair the injury that forced him to miss WWE WrestleMania 41.

In a post to his Instagram stories on Monday, Mysterio informed fans that he’s at the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama to undergo surgery for a torn abductor muscle. Mysterio said he’ll have an update later once surgery is complete.

“I tore my abductor the SmackDown before WrestleMania, and I’m scheduled for surgery today. So I will keep you guys posted,” Mysterio said. “Thank you guys very much, and I will let you guys know once I get out of surgery.”

The injury happened during a six-man tag match on SmackDown where Mysterio, Dragon Lee & Rey Fenix defeated Chad Gable & The Creed Brothers. With Mysterio unable to compete at WrestleMania the next night, Fenix replaced him on the card, losing to Gable’s El Grande Americano character in a singles bout.

Dave Meltzer reported that Mysterio initially wanted to gut it out and still compete at WrestleMania before realizing that would not be able to happen.
