Roman Reigns sent Kevin Owens crashing through a table to close the first SmackDown episode of 2021.

After involvement from Jey Uso again cost him a Universal Championship match against Reigns last week, Owens and Uso faced off in the main event of the New Year's Day edition of SmackDown. Owens defeated Uso and then continued to beat him down after the match. Owens asked where Reigns was and told him to come take care of his family.

Owens got handcuffs out from under the ring, handcuffed Uso to the top rope, and kept attacking him. Uso had cost Owens his steel cage match against Reigns last week by handcuffing him to the cage.

When Reigns still wouldn't come out to the ring, Owens said he was going to bring Uso to Reigns. Owens went to jump off a stand at the WWE ThunderDome as Uso was on a table below, but Reigns ambushed Owens. Owens tried to fight back, but Uso joined in on the attack. They used steel chairs, Reins repeatedly threw Owens into the ThunderDome's video screens, and Reigns sent Owens through the table below.

Owens had interrupted Reigns and Uso during last night's opening segment. Owens said he was going to fight Uso and went to Adam Pearce to have the match made. After saying he couldn't make the match due to Reigns not wanting it to happen, Pearce eventually relented and made it official. Reigns wasn't happy and ordered Paul Heyman to find out who approved the match.
