WWE SummerSlam not impacted by venue roof issues
US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis needs a portion of its roof repaired, but WWE SummerSlam will still be taking place at the venue as scheduled.
SummerSlam 2026 is set to be held at US Bank Stadium on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2. This week, news broke that, due to a hail storm that took place back in 2023, the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority needs to replace 60 percent of the stadium’s roof.
However, the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority describes the repairs as “proactive” and says there is no danger to anyone attending events at US Bank Stadium before the repairs happen. A WWE source told WrestleVotes that SummerSlam will not be impacted in any way.
“Following yesterday’s report from The Minnesota Star Tribune that a large portion of the roof at U.S. Bank Stadium requires replacement due to hail damage sustained in 2023, a WWE source tells us the issue is not expected to impact SummerSlam in any way,” WrestleVotes tweeted. “We’re told WWE has been informed by city officials that the roof remains structurally safe.”
A timeline for when the repairs will be happening has not been announced yet. Proposals from design firms seeking to land the project are due on June 25.
“All Minnesotans can be confident that the roof at U.S. Bank Stadium is safe, that proactive steps are in place to preserve its unique environment, and the MSFA’s financial safeguards have protected this public investment,” a statement from MSFA said.
US Bank Stadium, the home of the Minnesota Vikings, is a relatively new venue, having opened in 2016. Since its opening, there have been attempts from the city of Minneapolis to host WrestleMania. Those attempts came close but have ultimately been unsuccessful, with the city instead landing this two-night SummerSlam.
The SummerSlam card will come into focus after WWE Night of Champions is held in Saudi Arabia on June 27. At that PLE, the King & Queen of the Ring tournament finals will both take place. The winners earn World title shots for SummerSlam.
