WWE gives update on vacant Women’s World Championship

WWE plans on crowning a new Women’s World Champion soon — but it won’t be happening at Clash in Paris.
Stephanie Vaquer had been scheduled to challenge Naomi at the August 31 PLE in France. That match is off, though, with Naomi vacating the Women’s World Championship last week due to her pregnancy. WWE gave an update on the situation during a backstage segment that took place on today’s Raw episode. It was announced that Vaquer will still be getting a match for the title. Her opponent will be revealed next week, along with a date for when the title match will be taking place.

“Paris cannot happen,” Raw General Manager Adam Pearce told Vaquer. “But you will have your championship match. I already have an opponent in mind. I just need a week to finalize some details. Give me a week, I’ll let you know who you’re facing and when the championship match is.”
Vaquer said she’s disappointed she won’t be wrestling at Clash in Paris but understands the situation. She had earned the title shot by winning a battle royal last month at WWE Evolution.
Whether IYO SKY is still owed a shot at the title remains to be seen. She was supposed to challenge Naomi for the Women’s World Championship on the August 11 episode of Raw before it was announced that Naomi was not cleared to compete.
It was during last week’s show that Naomi officially confirmed that she and Jimmy Uso are expecting. Naomi promised to return as soon as possible and come after the Women’s World Championship again.
