WWE vs. AAA title vs. title tag match booked for future SmackDown
Since WWE purchased AAA, we have seen talent from one promotion challenge for and even win championships from the other. Now, for the first time, we’re going to see each promotion’s champions facing each other.
The War Raiders, the AAA Tag Team Champions, appeared on SmackDown on Friday night. They challenged Damian Priest & R-Truth to face them, with their WWE Tag Team Championships as well as the AAA belts on the line.
The segment began with R-Truth defeating Nathan Frazer in a hot dog-eating contest, celebrating it as a win for the United States over England on Independence Day Weekend. After Frazer and his partner Axiom left, the War Raiders stepped in and made their challenge.
Priest and R-Truth accepted the challenge, but with Nick Aldis not on the show tonight, they could not make the match official or pinpoint a date. But Priest made it clear that the match would eventually happen on SmackDown.
The War Raiders defeated the Psycho Circus (Psycho Clown & Pagano) to win the AAA tag titles on May 30 in Monterrey, Mexico. They have not defended the championships since.
Priest & R-Truth won the WWE tag belts from JC Mateo & Tama Tonga on March 20 on the March 20 episode of SmackDown in Raleigh, North Carolina. They have defended the belts several times since then, most recently against Talla Tonga & Tama Tonga on the June 19 SmackDown in Kansas City, Missouri.
