December 4, 2023 Observer Newsletter: CM Punk WWE return, AEW revenue growth

C.M. Punk made a return to WWE at the Survivor Series on 11/25 in Chicago and on Raw two days later.

The return, the subject of a ton of rumors, was kept secret from most, and Paul Levesque said it was put together days before the event. Leveque claimed that when people were talking about it like it was happening, it wasn’t happening and when people stopped talking about it happening the last few days, it was.

The move made logical sense given any following of wrestling history. If somebody can make a difference, no matter what their track record is, whether it’s drug issues, backstage issues, or major problems with the promotion if they can draw money, in time those wounds will be healed and they will be brought back. It virtually always happens in time and this time there was more economics in favor of it.
