February 17, 2020 Observer Newsletter: WrestleMania 37 details, WWE financials, more

WWE officially announced on 2/10 that the 37th WrestleMania will be coming to the new SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA, just outside Los Angeles, on March 28, 2021.

The date is a week early because April 4, which would usually be the date, is Easter Sunday.

It had been expected Los Angeles to be the home of the show, and both sides had agreed more than a year back on that aspect. The city wanted it in 2021 as a way of preparing the city and the stadium for a major tourist event before they hosted the 2022 Super Bowl. WWE wanted to follow the Super Bowl, largely to make an attendance announcement that would include noting that they beat the Super Bowl attendance number.

They will likely announce a number larger than the Super Bowl would be able to fit, even if it would also likely not be a real number, but they couldn’t claim to have beaten the Super Bowl until after the Super Bowl,
