Bronson Reed wins North American title on WWE NXT

A new North American Champion was crowned in the main event of this week’s NXT.

In a steel cage match, Bronson Reed defeated Johnny Gargano on NXT tonight to win the NXT North American Championship. After overcoming interference by Austin Theory, Reed hit two top rope splashes on Gargano to win the North American title. Reed refused to win the match by walking out of the door after the first splash and instead chose to hit his Tsunami splash on Gargano to get the pin.

The NXT North American Championship is the first title that Reed has held in WWE. Reed (formerly known as Jonah Rock) joined the WWE Performance Center in February 2019.

This was the second time that Reed had challenged Gargano for the NXT North American Championship. After winning a number one contender’s Gauntlet Eliminator match at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one last month, Reed lost a title match to Gargano at night two. Reed getting another title shot was set up when he defeated Gargano’s The Way stablemate Theory on NXT three weeks ago.

This was Gargano’s third reign with the North American Championship. He had been champion since defeating Leon Ruff and Damian Priest in a triple threat match at TakeOver: WarGames last December.

Reed said on tonight’s NXT that today was the 14-year anniversary of him making his in-ring debut. Reed’s wife joined him in the ring as he gave a speech after tonight’s show went off the air.
