Iron Man match ends in tie, NXT to crown new champion next Tuesday

The four-way Iron Man match on tonight’s NXT ended without a new NXT Champion being crowned.

The 60-minute Iron Man match finished with Finn Balor and Adam Cole both in the lead after winning two falls. William Regal then announced that Balor and Cole will face off in a one-fall-to-a-finish singles match next week to determine the new NXT Champion.

Each wrestler had won one fall leading into the final stretch of tonight’s match. Tommaso Ciampa hit an Air Raid Crash from the middle rope on Johnny Gargano, but Balor flew in with a Coup de Grace and pinned Ciampa to take the lead with less than 20 seconds left. But Cole hit a Last Shot on Balor and pinned him just before time expired.

The NXT Championship was declared vacant last week when Karrion Kross had to relinquish the title due to injury. Kross had won the NXT Championship from Keith Lee in the main event of TakeOver XXX just days earlier but suffered a separated shoulder during the match.

NXT is again airing on Tuesday next week due to the NHL playoffs. The episode will also feature Rhea Ripley vs. Mercedes Martinez in a steel cage match.
