Johnny Gargano injured during NXT TV taping, still finishes match

Johnny Gargano was briefly injured Wednesday during a match being taped for next week’s NXT, but was able to recover and finish the match.

Gargano was wrestling Ridge Holland with the winner going to the five-way ladder match at NXT TakeOver XXX for the vacant North American Championship. According to reports, Gargano was dropped on his head, causing the match to be stopped for several minutes. After being checked out by personnel that included Paul Levesque and Shawn Michaels, they resumed the match with Gargano being checked out further afterward.

Post Wrestling first reported the story on Wednesday.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that he doubted the spot would make air and that they likely went a different direction once the match resumed so the final edited version made sense.

Next week’s NXT show was taped after the one that aired Wednesday night and will also feature Finn Balor vs. Velveteen Dream in the final qualifying match, a face-to-face confrontation with Adam Cole and Pat McAfee, and a six-man tag featuring Legado del Fantasma (NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar, Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde) vs. Isaiah Scott & Breezango.
