New North American Champion crowned at NXT TakeOver XXX

Damian Priest is the new NXT North American Champion.

Priest defeated Bronson Reed, Cameron Grimes, Johnny Gargano, and Velveteen Dream in a five-way ladder match at NXT TakeOver XXX tonight to win the vacant North American title. It’s the first championship that Priest has held in WWE.

Priest and Gargano were both going for the title belt at the end of the match. The belt partially came unhooked and they were fighting for it, but Priest booted Gargano and he fell off the ladder.

The North American Championship was declared vacant after Keith Lee defeated Adam Cole in their winner-take-all title vs. title match at Great American Bash night two last month. It was said that Lee didn’t want to limit the roster’s opportunities and wanted as many people to get a shot to win the North American title as possible.

Priest had qualified for the ladder match by defeating Oney Lorcan and Ridge Holland in a triple threat match.

Priest is the seventh wrestler to hold the North American title. Cole, Ricochet, Gargano, Dream, Roderick Strong, and Lee are the previous champions.
