Ripley-Martinez steel cage match set for next Tuesday’s NXT
A steel cage match will take place on next week’s episode of NXT.
WWE announced tonight that Rhea Ripley and Mercedes Martinez will face off in a steel cage match on NXT next Tuesday. On tonight’s episode, Ripley cut a promo challenging Martinez to the match. Martinez later responded and accepted Ripley’s challenge.
Ripley and Martinez have been feuding since Martinez joined the Robert Stone Brand. Ripley declined to join the group. Last month, Martinez interfered in Ripley’s number one contender’s match against Dakota Kai and cost Ripley a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship.
Martinez again interfered when Ripley teamed with Io Shirai against Kai & Raquel Gonzalez on NXT last week. After the interference, Gonzalez pinned Ripley to get the win.
Ripley said in her promo that she’s sick of Martinez and the Robert Stone Brand sticking their nose in her business. Ripley said she thought Martinez got the message when she powerbombed Martinez on the concrete last month, but apparently Martinez is too thick to understand that. Ripley then declared that she wants to face Martinez in a steel cage match.
Martinez said she’s a fighter and accepted Ripley’s challenge.
NXT is airing on Tuesday tonight and next week due to the NHL playoffs.
