WWE crowns first NXT UK Heritage Cup Champion

A-Kid is NXT UK's inaugural Heritage Cup Champion.

In the finals of the Heritage Cup tournament, A-Kid defeated Trent Seven on this week's episode of NXT UK. A-Kid submitted Seven in sudden-death overtime to win the match two falls to one.

A-Kid won the first fall of the match in round three. He had the match won at the end of round five, but time expired before the referee counted the pin. Seven won a fall in round six to send the match to sudden-death overtime.

As NXT UK general manager Johnny Saint's assistant Sid Scala was about to give the Heritage Cup trophy to A-Kid after the match, Seven took the trophy from Scala and presented it to A-Kid himself. Streamers filled the ring and A-Kid celebrated with the Heritage Cup trophy as the show went off the air.

A-Kid vs. Seven was positioned as a matchup of youth vs. experience. A-Kid said he needed to win the Heritage Cup to launch his career, while Seven said he needed to win the tournament to cement his legacy.

Triple H tweeted about A-Kid's win: "There can only be one 'first.' Congratulations to @AKidWrestler on winning the #NXTUK #HeritageCup...incredible match and the beginning of big things for this young man. Can’t wait to see you represent your country and this brand in the future. #WeAreNXTUK"

The Heritage Cup trophy will now be defended as a championship. Heritage Cup matches have the following British Rounds rules:

  • There will be six rounds for Heritage Cup matches. Each round will be three minutes.
  • There will be 20-second breaks between each round.
  • All matches are two-out-of-three falls.
  • Falls can be won by pinfall, submission, or countout.
  • Once a fall occurs, the round ends.
  • Once someone has won two falls, they are declared the winner.
  • If there's a disqualification or knockout, the match ends without the need for two falls.
  • If a match goes the full six rounds, whoever is ahead on falls wins.
