WWE NXT Tag Team title match set for June 1

Legado del Fantasma are next in line for a shot at MSK’s NXT Tag Team titles.

NXT Tag Team Champions MSK (Wes Lee & Nash Carter) will defend their titles against Legado del Fantasma (Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde) on the Tuesday, June 1 episode of NXT. The announcement was made by NXT general manager William Regal after Mendoza & Wilde defeated Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher on NXT tonight.

Regal said he’s not quite happy with how Mendoza & Wilde got there, but they’re now the number one contenders to MSK’s NXT Tag team titles. Mendoza & Wilde defeated Ciampa & Thatcher after The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) interfered and attacked Ciampa while the referee’s attention was turned away.

Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Mendoza & Wilde) defeated Kushida & MSK in a six-man tag match on NXT three weeks ago. Mendoza pinned Carter to get the win.

MSK became NXT Tag Team Champions by defeating Gibson & Drake and Mendoza & Wilde in a triple threat match at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver last month. Lee pinned Gibson to win the match. The NXT Tag Team titles were vacant going into that match after Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch had to relinquish them due to Burch suffering a separated shoulder.

MSK have made one title defense since becoming NXT Tag Team Champions. They retained against Drake Maverick & Killian Dain.
