Dean Ambrose joins cast of ‘Cagefighter’ movie

The former Dean Ambrose is set for a role in a mixed martial arts-themed movie.

Deadline reported today that Ambrose (real name Jonathan Good) has joined the cast of the action movie “Cagefighter.” The film is currently in pre-production.

Cagefighter “tells the story of a lauded MMA champion who unexpectedly loses a heavily promoted match to a professional wrestling star making his crossover debut in the MMA fighting world. Humiliated by the defeat, he must fight his way back to the top and earn his place for a rematch.”

WWE’s Christian (Jay Reso) is an executive producer on Cagefighter. Deadline notes that the movie features appearances by UFC fighters Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, and Alexander Gustafsson and stars actors Michael Jai White, Gina Gershon, Josh Herdman, Michelle Ryan, and Jason Maza.

Ambrose had his final match for WWE on April 21, teaming with Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins against Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley & Drew McIntyre. Ambrose departed WWE when his contract expired in April. On May 1, Ambrose released a video announcing that he’s returning to using the name Jon Moxley in professional wrestling.
