Apollo Crews Intercontinental title defense set for WWE SmackDown

The Intercontinental title will be on the line on tonight’s episode of SmackDown.

WWE has announced that new Intercontinental Champion Apollo Crews will make his first title defense on SmackDown tonight. His opponent for tonight’s show hasn’t been revealed.

Crews won the Intercontinental title by defeating Big E in a Nigerian Drum Fight at WrestleMania 37 night two earlier this month. Crews got the win with help from the former Dabba-Kato, who is now going by the name Commander Azeez.

On SmackDown last week, Crews cut a promo officially introducing Commander Azeez. Crews said Commander Azeez is a former member of the Nigerian Elite Guard.

Commander Azeez will be in Crews’ corner for his Intercontinental title defense tonight.

Commander Azeez’s real name is Babatunde Aiyegbusi. Aiyegbusi played as an offensive lineman for the Minnesota Vikings during the 2015 NFL preseason.

Before losing the title to Crews at WrestleMania 37, Big E had been Intercontinental Champion since defeating Sami Zayn in a lumberjack match on the Christmas Day episode of SmackDown last December.
