Asuka suffers injury at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III

Kanako “Asuka” Urai, the NXT women’s champion, suffered a broken right collarbone in her title defense over Ember Moon on Saturday night at the Takeover event in Brooklyn.

The WWE reported the injury tonight, saying that Dr. Jeffrey Westerfield, who tended to Urai, said the typical recovery time from such an injury is six to eight weeks out.

“During the match, she landed awkwardly from a throw from Ember Moon and was able to complete the match, but had notable pain and discomfort,” he said. “We performed an initial ultrasound backstage that was highly suspicious of a break that was later confirmed by an X-ray.”

WWE made no announcement regarding the status of the championship, which she has now held for over 500 days. With the time frame out, and that she would be expected to be ready to return in time for the November Takeover show, it’s probably best to keep the championship on her.
