Becky Lynch vs. Asuka official for WWE Royal Rumble

Becky Lynch and Asuka are officially set to face off at the Royal Rumble for the second straight year.

During tonight’s Raw, it was confirmed that Becky Lynch will defend her Raw Women’s Championship against Asuka at next month’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. The show is taking place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas on January 26.

Lynch had issued a challenge to Asuka on last week’s Raw. Asuka wanted Lynch to put the Raw Women’s title on the line, and Lynch told her to name the time and place. Lynch then did a backstage interview on tonight’s show and announced that their match would take place at the Royal Rumble.

In storyline, Lynch stated that her contract is coming up and she told WWE that this was the match she wanted before she would even begin negotiations.

Lynch needing to avenge her loss against Asuka from the 2019 Royal Rumble also plays into the story for the match. Asuka retained the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Lynch back in January, then Lynch won the women’s Royal Rumble match later in the night.

In addition to the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches, “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt defending his Universal Championship against Daniel Bryan is also set for next month’s PPV.
