Big Show challenges Shaq to a match at WrestleMania

Two of the world’s largest and most recognizable athletes might be facing off at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando.

As briefly touched on during last night's Wrestling Observer Radio, the Big Show challenged former NBA all-star Shaquille O’Neal to match at the WWE’s biggest event of the year.

O’Neal almost immediately accepted the match and told WWE to make it happen.

WrestleMania 33 will take place in Orlando, where O’Neal began his career as a member of the Orlando Magic before signing with the Los Angeles Lakers. He would go on to play for four other teams in his Hall of Fame career.

O’Neal is a longtime wrestling fan and has made multiple appearances inside of the squared circle. He was involved in the Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair WCW title match at Bash at the Beach 1994 and he previously got into a confrontation with Big Show when he guest hosted Raw in 2009.

It was speculated that the incident would lead to a WrestleMania match then, but it never happened.

The former NBA powerhouse finally made his official in-ring debut at WrestleMania 32 in Dallas earlier this year when he competed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

Several WWE stars were at the annual awards show put on by ESPN last night, including Flair, WWE women’s champion Charlotte, the Bella twins, and I-C champion The Miz. The show was hosted by John Cena and his opening monologue is available below.
