Bobby Roode vs. Roderick Strong set for NXT TV tapings

Both of NXT’s top titles will be on the line at Friday night’s television tapings.

It was announced during this week’s episode of NXT TV that Bobby Roode would defend his title against Roderick Strong on Friday, with the match scheduled to air on the WWE Network on July 5th.

Roode and Strong have feuded since Roode retained his NXT Championship against Hideo Itami at TakeOver: Chicago. An angle where they got into a brawl after Roode taunted Strong and his family aired on last night’s show. Roode offered Strong a title shot at any time or place.

WWE is hyping that the July 5th show is the 400th episode of NXT.

It was previously announced that Asuka would defend her Women’s Championship against Nikki Cross in a last woman standing match at Friday’s tapings. That was set up when they went to a no contest in a triple threat elimination match after Ruby Riot had been eliminated. Their last woman standing match will air next Wednesday.

With nearly three months between TakeOver specials, this week’s tapings should move on from some TV angles and begin building others for TakeOver: Brooklyn. The Barclays Center will host that event on August 19th.
