NWA ‘pop-up event’ announced for January

Coming off October’s 70th Anniversary Show, the NWA will be putting on a “pop-up event” in January.

The NWA announced today that they’re partnering with Tried-N-True Pro Wrestling for the first-ever NWA pop-up event, which is being called “New Years Clash” and is taking place at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center in Clarksville, Tennessee on Saturday, January 5, 2019.

The show will feature title defenses by NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis, NWA Women’s Champion Jazz, and NWA National Champion Willie Mack. Opponents for them have yet to be announced. It will also include the first qualifying match for the Crockett Cup tag team tournament, which is returning in 2019.

“We are thrilled to partner with Tried-N-True Wrestling for our very first NWA Pop-Up Event, where for one night we’ll bring our champions to the great fans of Clarksville, Tennessee on what will be a night of hard hitting, old school meets new school professional wrestling,” Billy Corgan said.

The NWA 70th Anniversary Show took place on October 21 and was headlined by Aldis defeating Cody Rhodes in a two-out-of-three falls match to regain the NWA title. The day after the show, Corgan commented on the event and the production issues they faced, noting that “we have much work to do before we’d run another such live event.”
