NXT’s Dakota Kai returning to the ring

Dakota Kai’s return to the ring looks to be imminent.

WWE began hyping Kai’s return via a video that aired on this week’s episode of NXT. In the video, Kai called herself the Captain of Team Kick and it played up her in-ring style. The text “Dakota Kai returns” appeared at the end, though when she’ll be returning wasn’t announced.

Kai has been out of action since December of 2018. She tore her ACL while teaming with Kairi Sane & Candice LeRae in a six-woman tag match against Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir & Jessamyn Duke at an NXT house show in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Kai wrote that the injury happened when she planted her foot awkwardly after a kick.

Kai underwent surgery to repair her torn ACL on January 17.

Kai is from New Zealand and formerly wrestled as Evie before signing with WWE. She was part of the first Mae Young Classic in 2017, making it to the quarterfinals before losing to Sane. Kai was involved in a program against Baszler after making it to NXT television.
