Pat McAfee signs multi-year deal with WWE

Former NFL all-pro punter and current sports media personality Pat McAfee has officially signed a contract with WWE.

McAfee posted a video this morning where he discussed his professional wrestling fandom and announced that he’s signed a multi-year deal with WWE. McAfee described his role with WWE as “on a microphone, doing digital things, and however else I can help a company that helped me through a lot of years of my life.”

McAfee tweeted: “Good morning beautiful people.. today’s a pretty massive day for me. I can officially say I’m a @WWE employee. A real lifelong dream coming true thanks to @MichaelCole and @TripleH.. This opportunity means the world to me. Let’s. Go.”

“The future’s bright,” Cole said on McAfee’s podcast. “It’s not just going to be kickoff shows anymore for you. You’ve got a lot of stuff coming down the pipe, I hope.”

McAfee’s new deal with WWE began on February 1.

In April of 2018, McAfee made his debut as an NXT pre-show panelist at TakeOver: New Orleans. He was also the guest ring announcer for Adam Cole vs. Aleister Black at an NXT house show in Indianapolis last March and got involved in the match.

McAfee played for the Indianapolis Colts from 2009-2016, making two Pro Bowls and one all-pro team. He retired from the NFL at 29 years old to join Barstool Sports. McAfee departed Barstool in 2018 and called his first NFL game for Fox this past December.
