Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler announced for WWE SmackDown

WWE has made a new match announcement for tonight’s Throwback edition of SmackDown.

Rey Mysterio will face Dolph Ziggler in a singles match on SmackDown tonight. The match comes in advance of Rey & Dominik Mysterio challenging for Ziggler & Robert Roode’s SmackDown Tag Team titles at WrestleMania Backlash on Sunday, May 16.

Rey & Dominik are looking to become the first father and son team to hold Tag Team titles in WWE history. Ziggler & Roode have been SmackDown Tag Team Champions since defeating The Street Profits for the titles this January.

Tonight’s Throwback episode of SmackDown on Fox will feature retro branding. It’s tied in with this being NASCAR’s Throwback Weekend. NASCAR’s Throwback Weekend events are airing on FS1.

Tonight’s SmackDown will also feature Cesaro vs. Seth Rollins in a WrestleMania rematch. Cesaro defeated Rollins when they faced off at WrestleMania 37 last month.

At the end of last Friday’s SmackDown, Cesaro was tied up in the ropes and forced to watch on as Roman Reigns laid out Daniel Bryan with a con-chair-to. Cesaro had tried to make the save for Bryan but was attacked by Jey Uso. Bryan is now banished from SmackDown after unsuccessfully challenging for Reigns’ Universal Championship last week.
