WWE reveals location for New Year’s Eve episode of SmackDown

WWE will be in Charlotte, North Carolina this New Year’s Eve.

It was revealed tonight that the Friday, December 31 episode of SmackDown will take place at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center. WWE was at the venue for a house show tonight.

Kaci Jones of Fox 46 in Charlotte tweeted about making the announcement: “Thank you @WWE and @ByronSaxton! I had a blast sharing the BIG NEWS that SMACKDOWN is coming to Charlotte on New Years Eve! #wwecharlotte”

The SmackDown episode will take place one day before WWE’s first-ever New Year’s Day pay-per-view. Last month, it was announced that the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia will host a WWE PPV on Saturday, January 1, 2022.

Tonight’s house show in Charlotte was headlined by John Cena, Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio defeating Universal Champion Roman Reigns & The Usos in a six-man tag match. SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks were both scheduled to appear, but it was announced that neither would be on the show due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
