Callum Newman has responded to reports regarding his shoulder injury.

Newman dislocated his shoulder during his match against Yota Tsuji at NJPW Dominion last month. He returned on Saturday for the opening night of G1 Climax 36, defeating Yuya Uemura.

On Saturday’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Newman did not appear to be fully healed and revealed that he had only been medically cleared to return to the ring on Monday.

Newman posted to social media on Sunday, stating that while his arm still hurts, it was his decision to compete in the G1, writing:

“Tape and Tōkon My arm still hurts, but it was my decision to compete in the G1. I’ve got something to prove—not just to myself, but to everyone praying for my downfall.”

Meltzer had the following to say regarding Newman on Wrestling Observer Radio:

“I didn’t sense that Newman is necessarily 100 percent. He actually just got cleared on Monday. There was a chance that, even though he was adamant that he was going to wrestle, there actually was a good chance he might not have made the first week. They could have just delayed it a week if worst came to worst.”
