Kevin Knight could be challenging for the AEW World Championship later this month.

According to our own Bryan Alvarez, the plan as of a few days ago was for Kenny Omega to defend the title against Knight in the main event of Redemption.

“Yes, as of a few days ago, Kenny Omega vs. Kevin Knight was the Redemption title match,” Alvarez wrote to his subscribers on X.

Omega won the title from MJF on last week’s Beach Break edition of Dynamite in a match that had once been expected to headline the Redemption pay-per-view.

In the July 13, 2026 edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, our own Dave Meltzer wrote that MJF is believed to have pushed for his match against Omega to be moved up to last week, writing:

It was pushed, believed to be by MJF, to get it moved to television. I was not given a reason why, but it doesn’t matter where the suggestion came from, that’s a major change and Tony Khan approved of it.

Earlier on Wednesday, Fightful reported that MJF could be off AEW programming for a period of time. The outlet also reported this week that Knight could be in line for a major push, including a possible AEW World Championship match at Redemption.

AEW Redemption takes place on Sunday, July 26, at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
