Chris Jericho bringing back old character for AEW Redemption

Chris Jericho | AEW

The “Painmaker” is returning to AEW.

In a new match made during Wednesday’s Dynamite, Chris Jericho is bringing back his anything goes Painmaker character for a rematch against Tommaso Ciampa at next weekend’s AEW Redemption in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

In a pre-taped promo Wednesday, Jericho appeared in the Painmaker hat and makeup, challenging Ciampa for a match at the pay-per-view which Ciampa accepted in a live promo, adding he will be in action on Thursday’s Collision on his hometown of Boston.

The two went to battle at last Wednesday’s Beach Break edition of Dynamite in a wild, bloody match that Ciampa won, teasing using a power drill on Jericho afterward.

It wasn’t confirmed to be an anything goes match, but the Painmaker character leads itself to such matches including a notable barbed wire match with Eddie Kingston in July 2022. Jericho has wrestled under the character in NJPW as well.
