WWE star reveals why AEW never felt like home: ‘I gave my neck for this company’
Paige opened up about her AEW tenure citing that she always felt like a WWE girl at heart. She appreciated Tony Khan and the promotion for the opportunities provided during her three year tenure with them.
Paige reflected on her time in AEW on The Nikki & Brie Show admitting that while she enjoyed her run with the company, she felt her lack of passion affected her performances and reinforced how much WWE meant to her. She also expressed her appreciation for AEW and Tony Khan while explaining why WWE has always felt like home.
“Well, I did go to AEW, and I did have a great time there, but my heart wasn’t in it.”
“I feel like you could see that in my performance when I was in the ring and in my character. It was just like, ‘I’m a WWE girl, man.’ I love WWE.”
“So, yeah, I went there for a couple of years, and then we went our separate ways. It ended really, really great, and I have nothing but love when it comes to AEW and Tony [Khan] and stuff like that.”
“But when it comes to WWE, that’s just where I’ve wanted to be forever. I’ve been there since I was 18 years old. I gave my neck for this company, you know? I grew up here.”
Paige talked about her conversation with Triple H before her WrestleMania return to replace an injured Nikki Bella in the Women’s Tag Team Title match. She made her AEW debut in 2022 at Grand Slam that year and stayed with the promotion until 2025.
At SNME last weekend, Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid ended Paige and Brie Bella’s 91-day title reign.
