Young Bucks: Kenny Omega’s AEW World title win was ‘truly inspiring’
For The Young Bucks, seeing their friend Kenny Omega become AEW World Champion again was an inspiring moment.
Omega began his second AEW World Championship reign on July 8 when he defeated MJF at the Beach Break edition of Dynamite. His first reign with the title happened back in 2020-2021, and it’s been a long road for Omega to get back to this point. A battle with diverticulitis threatened both his life and his career, keeping Omega out of action for more than a year before returning at the start of 2025.
A story published by Undisputed today notes that neither Young Buck was at Beach Break due to Matt Jackson being on a family vacation to Hawaii and Nick Jackson also being away with his wife and children in Nevada. But they were still watching closely, with Matt Jackson making sure he had a fully charged phone, access to cell service, and a spot where he could watch the match in Hawaii.
“It was great to see Big Match Kenny do what he does best,” Matt said. “He creates an atmosphere that no other current wrestler can. When he’s in his element, there’s this inevitable feeling that you’re about to watch something that’ll be remembered forever…
“I was just super happy for him. He’s been through so much and to see him come back from a near-death experience to be at the top of the mountain again, it was truly inspiring.”
Kenny Omega’s upcoming AEW title defenses —
Omega will be putting his World Championship on the line against Kevin Knight at AEW’s Redemption pay-per-view this Sunday (July 26). Assuming he makes it through that, Omega vs. Will Ospreay will then headline All In 2026 on August 30.
At Redemption, there will be a tag team bout pitting The Young Bucks against Ospreay & Jon Moxley. The story is that, while Omega and Ospreay might be friends, The Young Bucks are attempting to show Omega that Ospreay cannot be trusted now that he’s part of the Death Riders.
