Former TNA World Champion confronts Tony D’Angelo on WWE NXT

Tony D'Angelo retains NXT Championship

Mike Santana is back in NXT.

After Robert Stone was on the phone all night indicating someone would be arriving at NXT this week, Santana arrived through the crowd after Tony D’Angelo defeated Naraku in the main event. The show ended with Santana and D’Angelo having a staredown, indicating that the former TNA World Champion may be next for Tony D.

Notably, Santana was never mentioned by name by commentators, and the video screen during his entrance did not reveal his name. Futhermore, he wasn’t identified on WWE’s social media.

Santana wraps up with TNA

A two-time World Champion, Santana departed the company back at Slammiversary on June 28 after losing the title to current champion Nic Nemeth. Later, Santana posted the date “7/15” on social media, hinting that may be when his contract with TNA expired.

During his time in TNA, Santana also made appearances on NXT television, winning a NXT vs. TNA Survivor Series elimination match at last year’s NXT Showdown. Back in March, he teamed with OTM to defeat Darkstate in a six-person tag team match at the MSG Theatre.
