Sheamus names WWE star he wanted to wrestle but never got to face
Sheamus built his WWE legacy as one of the company’s most hard-hitting, bruiser-style competitors, earning a reputation for turning every match into a physical war. Earlier this month, the announcement of his WWE exit left fans shocked. However, the former World Champion is already looking ahead, recently revealing the WWE stars he wishes he had the opportunity to face while also reflecting on one of his favorite rivalries with John Morrison.
Sheamus told Adam Glyn of Adam’s Apple that while Oba Femi is an obvious choice for WWE’s next big star, he would have liked to face Ilja Dragunov. He commended Trick Williams’ performance as well.
“I mean, obviously Oba (Femi), I never got a chance to go with him. He’s out of the gates swinging hard and definitely my type of opponent. I’m trying to think from the perspective of anyone else who’s not obvious cause Oba seems like an obvious choice now. Trick (Williams) is doing well.”
“I think from what I remember, Trick, Ilja Dragunov was another guy I wanted to wrestle. Amazing, he’s just a lunatic same as me, just wants to go out there and put the best fight he possibly can on. So, Ilja is another one I never got a chance to dance with, but he’s if he gets a good opportunity and he will be a big hit as well.”
Sheamus reflected on his matches with Morrison as memorable feuds, while praising his in-ring agility and style.
“I think there was one really important match for me after I got away from a lot of the, I think there was one really important match for me, and it was just two of us trying to break that glass ceiling and me and (John) Morrison had great chemistry. I was more of a hard-hitting bruiser guy and John, obviously very, very talented. Incredible athlete, Morrison still is. Unbelievable. But if you guys go back and watch that match, it’s awesome. One of my favorite ones. We just beat the absolute shite out of each other. It was great!”
During the interview, Sheamus expressed that his WWE exit was due to circumstances he could not explain. He also confirmed that he will compete under the name S. Farrelly going forward.
