Kenny Omega wins AEW World Title, will appear on Impact Tuesday

Kenny Omega is the new AEW World Champion after Wednesday’s Winter Is Coming edition of Dynamite, defeating Jon Moxley and kicking off some sort of storyline with Impact Wrestling.

The beginning of the end kicked off when Omega took a Paradigm Shift on the outside of the ring and played it off like he was hurt. A group of referees and Impact VP Don Callis, who was a guest on commentary, came down to check on Omega before Moxley threw him back in the ring.

As Moxley pounded away, Callis grabbed a mic and attempted to get him to stop before Moxley knocked him down, subtly throwing the mic to Omega in the aftermath. Omega then hit Moxley in the head with the mic and bloodied him up, following with a succession of V-Trigger knee strikes with his kneepad down and the One Winged Angel to pick up the win.

Then, things got surreal.

Omega and Callis then sprinted to the back and to the loading dock, passing by Tony Khan and various angry AEW personnel who were questioning what was happening. Alex Marvez caught up with them as they were about to get into a car in the loading dock and Callis said he and Omega would explain it all on Tuesday. Marvez said Dynamite was on Wednesday and Callis responded by saying he and Omega would explain things on Impact Wrestling on AXS TV.

Omega becomes the third champion in AEW’s young history following Chris Jericho and Moxley. He earned the shot by defeating Hangman Page in the finals of the World title eliminator tournament at Full Gear where Callis was also a guest commentator.
