Adam Copeland reflects on Arena Mexico debut
Competing at Arena Mexico for the first time lived up to Adam Copeland’s high expectations.
Before Grand Slam Mexico, Copeland listed Arena Mexico as one of the things still left on his wrestling bucket list. He opened the show by teaming with Christian Cage & The Young Bucks in an eight-man tag match against the Death Riders (Jon Moxley, PAC, Wheeler Yuta & Daniel Garcia). Copeland ended up taking the loss in a manner that furthered the build to his upcoming AEW Tag Team title defense against The Young Bucks at All In.
Copeland made an Instagram post on Thursday reflecting on how much this Arena Mexico debut meant to him, saying it’s something he’ll cherish for the rest of his life:
- What. A. Night. Finally, finally after 34 years I was privileged to step into The Wrestling Cathedral. Arena Mexico. And man, Mexico you did not disappoint. I felt the vibrations in my bones when I came out. It’d been 18 years since I last performed in Mexico and to finally do it in those hallowed halls, the perfect way to cap off my love affair with Lucha Libre and Mexico. I’ll take last night to the grave with me. Gracias Mexico.
Adam Copeland’s wrestling bucket list —
All In will be another bucket-list moment for Copeland. He and Cage are defending their AEW Tag Team titles against Matt & Nick Jackson at the August 30 pay-per-view, which is being held at Wembley Stadium in London. Copeland named Arena Mexico, Wembley, Maple Leaf Gardens, and the Tokyo Dome as the four venues he’s hoping to compete at before his eventual retirement. He also listed Kenny Omega as one of the dream opponents he still hopes to face.
Copeland will be working a show at Maple Leaf Gardens (now named the Mattamy Athletic Centre) for Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling this October.
