AEW Continental Cup tournament & details announced
After reigning AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley referenced the “Continental Cup” twice in a promo on Wednesday’s Dynamite, there was speculation as to what he meant or or if he misspoke about this winter’s annual Continental Classic.
On Thursday’s Collision, the confusion was cleared up as a new tournament has been announced that will culminate at next month’s All In: London.
The traditional tournament kicks off next Saturday and will feature 16 men “drawn at random.” Moxley will be part of the tournament and it appears that former ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness will also be involved based on his comments Thursday.
The full field will be announced by Tony Khan and Tony Schiavone on Monday via AEW’s YouTube channel.
The finals at Wembley Stadium will be for both the Continental title and the new Continental Cup.
Moxley is the third Continental Champion in AEW history, following inaugural champion Eddie Kingston and then Kazuchika Okada. Moxley won the title after winning last year’s tournament, defeating Okada in the finals at Worlds End. He’s defended it seven times since then.
