AEW now interested in making match that was social media hoax
A match that originally was a hoax on social media now has the attention of AEW matchmakers who hope they can pull it off.
An X user posted a graphic Wednesday showing AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita defending against young CMLL star Mascara Dorada for Dynamite that looked real enough that at least one media outlet reported on it as fact. However, it was completely made up.
On the post-Dynamite edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said in speaking with someone from AEW, they are very interested in putting that match together.
“Whoever put out that graphic spurred an idea in people’s heads and, in fact, they love the idea of that match. I don’t know if it’s going to happen anytime soon,” he said.
The 22-year-old Dorada has wrestled twice for AEW this year — once as part of a January eight-man tag team match and then in a February trios match against the Blackpool Combat Club.
Takeshita won the International title at last Saturday’s WrestleDream and has never competed against Dorada or in CMLL. AEW and CMLL talent have worked together frequently this year as their partnership has expanded, including at Forbidden Door and will again at this January’s Wrestle Dynasty in Japan along with NJPW.
