Jay White injury update after AEW Continental Cup announcement | Exclusive
Jay White was banged up at AEW Redemption, but is set to return to the ring.
During the double chain match between the Dogs and Bang Bang Gang at AEW Redemption in Montreal last week, White was dropped on his head when given a Dominator-type move by David Finlay. White was said to be “banged up” after the match.
On Monday, AEW announced that White will be part of the field for the first-ever AEW Continental Cup tournament. White is scheduled to face Finlay in the first round of the tournament on the August 12 edition of Dynamite, which is set for the Pearl Theater at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez addressed how long White was expected to be out of action on the post-WWE Raw edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.
Alvarez said: “Jay White also in the tournament, so apparently he was not injured too badly when he got spiked on his head.“
Meltzer said: “He was banged up, but he was only supposed to be out for about a week or so. So he’ll be there.”
Meltzer and Alvarez also discussed the upcoming AEW tournament, with Meltzer saying:
“There will probably be some somewhat intriguing matches, and of course there will be many good matches, but it’s not a loaded field as far as really truly top guys, other than Moxley, who’s the defending champion. The second biggest guy is, well, I guess Orange Cassidy.”
The AEW Continental Cup kicks off on this Saturday’s edition of Collision, with Ace Austin vs. Claudio Castagnoli, Eddie Kingston vs. Jake Doyle, and Orange Cassidy vs. Matt Sydal.
