Jon Moxley vs. Samoa Joe AEW World title match signed for Beach Break

More than a year after losing the AEW World title, Samoa Joe will finally get his chance at reclaiming it.

Joe will challenge reigning titleholder Jon Moxley as part of the four-hour Beach Break Dynamite/Collision special, set for Wednesday, May 14th in Chicago, Illinois.

Joe raised the ire of Moxley on last Wednesday’s Dynamite when he choked out Moxley to give The Opps the AEW Trios titles. Moxley challenged Joe the following Saturday on Collision and then, the two men and their respective teams got physical again on this week’s Dynamite with Joe once again choking him out. The match was announced later in the show.

Joe held the World title for nearly four months from December 2023’s Worlds End when he defeated MJF through April 2024’s Dynasty when he lost it to Swerve Strickland. This is his first opportunity at winning it back.

Moxley, in his fourth reign as champion, will surpass the 200-day mark by the time the match arrives. He has six successful defenses since winning it last October from Bryan Danielson.

According to Cagematch, the two have only had one singles match: a December 2017 WWE Raw match that Joe won. The two shared the ring on opposite sides of tag team matches throughout that year.
