Matt Hardy questions major AEW Redemption decision
TNA World Tag Team Champion Matt Hardy recently questioned AEW for removing a major title match from the PPV.
A few weeks ago, Kenny Omega defeated MJF to become the new AEW World Champion. However, while many believed the match would take place at AEW Redemption in Omega’s home country of Canada, it did not.
Hardy claimed that the promotion’s decision to have Omega defeat MJF at Dynamite Beach Break might not have paid off, since several AEW Redemption tickets have appeared on resale.
On the latest edition of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, with host John Alba, both men started discussing AEW Redemption’s ticket situation.
“I think him versus a big babyface is where you’re going to sell tickets,” Hardy said. “I just feel like MJF versus an over babyface with some sort of story behind it and motivation for the babyface to kick his as, I think that makes money. I think that is wrestling 101,” Hardy said. “That’s what it’s all about at the end of the day, not the actual in-ring wrestling. To sell tickets, it is about having that matchup that people give a sit about.”
While fans across the world voiced their demand on the internet to see Omega vs. Will Ospreay at All In 2026, Hardy believes MJF vs. Ospreay would have been the better choice. “MJF versus Will Ospreay, I still think is the biggest match you could do. You could do it at All In. But it is what it is.”
While MJF is expected to be a part of AEW All In on August 30, 2026, he is now reportedly set to be off television for some time. At the recently conducted AEW Redemption media call, Tony Khan also claimed that MJF was currently suffering from injuries.
Despite Hardy’s interest and logical reasons to see Omega vs. MJF at AEW Redemption, the promotion has now booked AEW TNT Champion Kevin Knight to face Omega for the World title on July 26, 2026.
