Matt Sydal said that after more than a decade of what he called suffering, he is finally getting surgery on his right foot that will put him on the injury shelf for some time.

Sydal announced the news on X Friday, saying that his surgeon will have to break and re-fuse three bones in addition to using hardware to set his toes into his joints.

He thanked AEW fans and their medical staff and was optimistic for his future, saying “the best is yet to come.” He did not reveal how long he expects to be out of the ring.

The 41-year-old was last in action in late-May, losing a two-minute match to Konosuke Takeshita on AEW Dynamite. He has kept a regular schedule through battling through the longtime injury, competing in 19 matches this year in both AEW and ROH in addition to an appearance alongside the Blackpool Combat Club for CMLL.
